so..now we have to pay for third party hosting for photobucket? are you frakking kidding me?

FFS first they limit us with how nice our images look(not that good at that) now they disable third party hosting/sharing on the free accounts...I'm done, photobucket. this is the last straw.

to all those who've viewed and love the work I've done over the years, please ask if there's something specific you want a copy of, or, check my deviantart, I MIGHT well have a copy of a given piece there, of course I'd be perfectly willing to upload files there and provide links on request.

my deviantart gallery can be found here http://xraiderv1.deviantart.com/gallery/

that said, for those of you with deviantart accounts, who are looking for hosting where we're not going to get done without lube as it were(apologies for the crass wording..kinda ticked atm) please speak up, I am making this a global topic, and I WILL be monitoring and updating this as a master directory for the artists of this site.

I do not support this approach as it invites a single point of failure (among other reasons). Why not just post directions on how to do it and let the individual do it on their own?

As for paying, me thinks thou dost protest too much. It's *free* and online ads are proving, in the long term, to not be all that productive so these hosing companies have to cover the costs somehow. For the cost of two bottles of soda at the Quik-E Mart, you cancover the hosting.

The era of the "free" internet is coming to a close...but then you knew it was never free...you were the product that was being sold.

on point one, fair enough.
on point two, there are users who cannot afford even the basic tier.
on the master index...ok, fair point. if people want to post links to their galleries, ok, I still think it should be centralized so no one needs to go digging for said links.

that said, how would you properly word such an invitation/post?

Not sure if it helps, but I use postimage.org for my hosting. Free, and hasn't given me any guff for a few years now.

If you're talking about a thread for people to post links to their work, that's pretty straightforward. However, and I'm going on the record here, I am strongly opposed in one person hosting stuff on their own account for several reasons:

1. Personality clash and denial of access.
2. Injury/death results in lack of updates, lack of access, loss of access; ultimately, denial of access for the owner of the images.
3. Ownership issues when it comes to copyright and fair use.

If you wanted to have a thread where the first post sums up the mission and the second post is edited to add additional links that people post in subsequent comments, that would work. Or, point them other free sites. But remember this, "free" is never free. Anything posted there will often be the sites to use in perpetuity without compensation to the original author, regardless of whether the image is still hosted there or not.

In the end, while I applaud your desire to help, I still suggest informing people of their options and allowing them to find the best fit for them.

ok, I think you misread my original post kurt...I didnt say I'd host anything..all I said was I'd add links to galleries to the post at the top of the page.

this is more or less what I said..or tried to say, I'm not sure how you arrived at the other conclusion.

I have been away a long long time. I had just found out about photobucket so all my BSG pictures and drawings here won't be linked. So I'm looking for ideas where to re-located my pictures drawings if I can. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
