I imagined that alot of the interior was reserved for fighter construction, ore processing, ammo resupply, asteroid mining, individual battlestar part construction etc... And the interior could also have alot more interior space for each section (making it feel roomier and allowing for alot more savings on funds) Including a giant interior park or biosphere like enviroment for off duty personell (Think Cloud 9 from the series or the transporter ship in the miniseries that the girl is on which is nuked).

Also while achilles was intended on being a mobile con-yard (before being almost completly scrapped for the much less financially costing scorpio fleet shipyards years later) it was almost always planet-side until the end of the 1st cylon war.

But using other shipyard members approximations and limeriks and wolfs drawings, one or the other should be better than the origional megalith. Really i love people arguing over the design bringing up concepts improving on concepts and making their own versions. (wolfs and limeriks) because I always wanted Achilles to be a community driven novel anyway. Looking forward to any more ideas or redesigns on the achilles! :)

This was *planetside*??? As in, on the surface?

You've got a hell of a lot of space in this thing; remember you're working in three dimensions, not just a flat plane. You could probably put every building in the five boroughs into this and still have 80+% of the internal volume left off. Lower and Central Manhattan have some tall buildings, but the tallest is barely 25% as tall as this ship. Most of the "skyscrapers" are less than 10% as tall as this ship.

The point I'm trying to make is that this ship is in a completely different league than anything to date. The resources that would be required to build this one ship would likely make it the sole project of the Colonies, a sort of Manhattan Project if you will.

I'll offer a alternative approach...find a good nickle-iron asteroid and hollow it out. You'll have a larger ship, it won't be that maneuverable, but it can put itself into a stable orbit, you'll have built in armor, and plenty of space both for expansion and to put dangerous refining operations far away from vital areas.

Sorry i meant "in planetary orbit"

The reason I didn't do the asteroid idea was that Achilles "HAS" to be mobile else alot of my story becomes defunct. As it basically takes the BSG fleet concept and reduces it from hundreds of smaller ships to one large one that also is docked with 3 battlestars and eventually one old basestar in the book. *edit* though I could technically say an asteroid was used in the interior to save costs... but what about the mass? eh thats a retcon that I'll consider writing in tomorrow. Still seeing and hearing concept ideas.

That being said yes a size reduction is best. Sorry Achilles, no DDs for you. :)

there are apparently 3 versions of the Achilles. :D The Origional V4 version done by me that now only exists in rendered pictures, wolfs version and limericks. Its like a nice steak selection. medium, medium-well with Outback seasoning, and well done with A1. Each delicious and wonderfully unique. (plus a 4th asteroid version theorized by another poster) Loving everyones version so far.
