Well, for my first official kitbash here at the forum, I present to you a brand spanking new Colonial Heavy Strikefighter... which is of course still a work in progress. She is still in need of a good name, though a couple of preliminary possibilities I've thought of is either Goshawk or maybe Banshee.

So what're your thoughts, criticisms and/or suggestions for improving the design? I would also like to hear any and all suggestions for a possible name you might have.

Well I for one like it. That is a really well done design.
How about a variant for a mine layer, recce and or a wild weasel design.

Awesome design. :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

It's got a lot of wing that's really unnecessary for space flight.

Maybe make it an air force or army design for atmospheric attack with space capabilities.

Yeah, that was pretty much the idea I had in mind for it, though I don't see any reason why she couldn't be used by the marines as well. I figure she's something of a cross between a A-10 Thunderbolt and a F-4 Phantom, both of which have rather large wings for both aiding in low-level flight and increasing munition capacity. Her primary roles would be to either provide close air support for ground forces along with performing strike missions as well or fighter interdiction against enemy aircraft.

Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you like it. I hadn't honestly thought of doing other variants, but I might consider it once she's finished.

Update: I changed the engines, added some secondary cannons with a second possible option to use instead of the ones that are on there now, and started lining things up for a side view. Which is going to get tricky real fast.

And here is a second variant with some added detailing on the fuselage. So, I'm curious to know which variant you guys think looks better, Undetailed fuselage or Detailed fuselage?

Edit* I had a slight hiccup with the detailed version I posted. Apparently, I forgot to save when I had finished, so the version I posted had been incomplete. Thankfully, there wasn't much I had to re-do. So, anyway the link should now be the right one.

Here's another update. The top view is pretty much done, though there is still a couple of things left for me to do. I ditched the alternative gun type, as it didn't look quite as good as those that are being used now, added a air brake and TADS systems, and decreased the number of primary machine guns down to just one. I am however unhappy with the air brake I drew, but I'm unsure on how to fix it/look better.

As expected the side view is giving me headaches, and I'm not that far into it yet either. This part could definitely be going smoother, but my inexperience is keeping it interesting, that's for sure. To be honest, I could use a pointer or two from someone who is a bit more experienced in the drawing aspects of pixel art while I attempt to draw out the side view.

How about inverting the tail vertical stabiliser so they dip into the space beneath the tail rather than add to the height on a pretty streamlined design?

I would also add that they be enlarged relative to the size of the main wing.

How about a rear mine launcher or stern chaser missile launcher.

Update the 3rd: After months of inactivity, largely due to my inability to work around the center line engine-housing to a satisfactory result. A chance discovery on one of Kelso323's works caught my eye and has allowed me to continue once again on and off for the past week. Now on to the good stuff, I've changed the tail section, added more detailing and made quite a few tweaks to the design here and there. The side view is nearing completion, with detailing finished and the additions of the center engine and it's housing structure, the wings and primary engine into the side profile. And finally, I lowered the cockpit area a bit and introduced the center engine's air intake.

Next, I'll be working on the *hump* on the side view, as I rather dislike it and I want to make one that better conforms to the updated design as it stands now. I'm also considering working on the air intakes on the wings to give them a more streamlined look.

Thank you, I hope you like what's been done since.

Tried it, but it just.... looked odd to me. But by all means, feel free to try it out for yourself if you'd still prefer to have it that way, 50. Besides, with the change in size of the tail stabilizers the thing would likely be scraping the pavement anyhow. :blackeye

I swapped out the entire tail section of the original B&C Raptor for the one on the Caprican Blackhawk, with some minor modification to better fit with the rest of the craft to boot. I have to agree, it's muuuuuch better now that they're better balanced to the overall wing size and design. :thumbsup

I'll see what I can come up with, providing I can find anything similar around here at the shipyards to work off of first.
