suggestion, flip the flightpod upside down, so they have a proper approach path and room to bail for whatever reason.

I figure, at the scale Star class vessels are typically portrayed at, the flight path is quite a bit more open than it first appears to be, since that landing pod is twice the length of a super carrier and all.

I would like to see a fixed pod model using either a long pair of angle braces or two pairs of shorter braces, fore to aft length I mean.

It might even be interesting to play around with this and see if a similar design concept could be applied to the Mercury and Valkyrie/Odin standards, if it already hasn't turned up somewhere already.

Why? If you're going to go through the expense of building a Mercury class hull, why intentionally neuter it like that? It would be like if the USN built a Ticonderoga class CG and instead of the aft helipad, VLS farm, and 5' gun, put a pool and Tiki bar. Just doesn't make sense.

For variation chief, purely for variation. It needn't make sense in universe after all, since mos to0f this is hardly any form of canon. Don't go getting so wrapped up in making sense that you lose sight of an opportunity to try something new artistically, even if it never really pans out.

I understand that, Gryphon. I'm very much a form follows function type when it comes to warships, and it just doesn't make sense to me. Yes, artistically it's cool, but it's like a non-symmetrical ship...they make my head hurt. :-) Literally. By trade I've been in IT design and development for most of my adult life...so for me "making sense" is sort of deeply rooted.

The same argument could be applied to this ship too though Kurt. So, whatever the logic is that makes this ship viable, that same logic could/would apply to the mercury or valkyrie hulls.

function is not always readily apparent, gentlemen.

It may not be apparent, but some inference based on the form can often strongly suggest what it might be used for.
