my first WIP in 6 FRAKKING YEARS!

while writing something with a buddy of mine...it came to our attention the distinct lack of medstars in sizes any bigger than escort/missile star tonnage...

thus I'm taking my Titan I uparmor and making a medstar with her.

right now I'm teasing out positioning for the two pods that are intended to be the ship's hospital pods.

ideas?

Lay them in the lenght of the engine booms & pods.
This both for structual reasons and practical ones.
If your lucky, you might be able to fit four such pods, that would give you some added space for storage and the like, including aditional beds, for all that medical personal.
And if she ever faces combat, you can thus have four hospital sectors, so if one is damaged, thats too bad, but you would still have three more.

Other option is to keep it to two and flip them up-side-down, mounting them on the underside of that thick wing structure, just before the engine booms/legs, begin.
Check that tug I once worked on, also based on the Defender, might help you a bit.

But I think those pods can sit both more backwards and higher.
Then there is the fact you used a pod conversion instead of using a proper covering plate on the two bay ends.
Remember, you are using the top view for the bottom view, account for that, no bay opening (plated over or not), is needed there.

No way to see that side of the pod, you know.
Suggest a heavy remodelling, there.
Bottom is a curved flate plate, not that top wedge like shape.
Get rid of most of that line work, then recolor it all.
That edge of dark to light, on those pods their flanks, is what you want to keep, in terms of detail, but everything else, except the red line, needs to be removed.

I did it the way I did on purpose, to give proper clearance, and the top view you're seeing is the ventral pod surface, the plating there was intended to try and reflect that, I did what I could to judge the far shallower curve of the ventral pod hull. I also considered removing the line art and rejected this approach as visually boring, so I opted to simplify it whilst making it clear that this was a heavily modified pod.

the medical pods are high and forward to give adequate clearance for the ship's limited viper compliment and allow non-ideal angle approaches for shuttles and raptors ferrying wounded/medical personnel, and to allow the point defenses adequate coverage.

its NOT a perfect conversion, as I had to make ALOT of guesses here, and I do acknowledge some missed the mark.

The problem being, those pods DO NOT have any vipers, raptor or so, housed in them.

Also note that I said the pods could be mounted a bit higher, meaning, directly against the wing.
And added to this, is that the flightpod is in the middle, centerline, if you will.
Which means you can move those medical pods a bit back, so they are hanging structually sound, besides, they do not have a runway AND are hanging upside down, so no showing a topside view.
As for AA fire, most of that is mounted in the nose trence, which is partly blocked by moving those pods so far to the front, they are literally limiting AA fire towards the back.

As for visually borring, now it is visually incorrect.
Which is a greater crime, since that is the amature way of modifying. (sorry to say)
We both know you are not.
But you just did a simple copy and past, thats lazy, you know.

Hell, update the drive section a bit, that lets you steal the nose section of my tug variant Defender.
You could even steal the side hangerbays as a way those medical pods get the medical shuttles & raptors.
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2145&start=105
It has potential, but you are going to really put some energy into it, not a simple two minutes copy and past job that leave things incorrect.
That ship will continue to bug you, every time you see it's picture.
Do a proper job, will you.
You'll notice that it will actually make you happy, if you managed to do such a modification, proparly.
And if you happen to do this, do a version thats decomissioned as a military hospital ship, but is still a hospital ship.
Besides, where are those hospital markings?
Painting those two pods white, could also counter the borring factor, you know.

All in all, I call it a badly done (hack) job and know you can do better.
Please do so.

ps: Really need to do something about that photobucket thing, not having a place to put pictures, is irritating, especially with something like this.

I know what I wanted to build, I had a clear goal in mind, that of a wartime conversion to fill a need that could not be met otherwise(namely fast and cheaply built medical ships) and I accomplished what I was looking to do.

also..about the vipers? just because she doesnt carry her own routinely(past two CAP flights), doesnt mean she CANT.

as to the photobucket thing, why do you think I abandoned photobucket?

hack job? give me SOME credit, this was the first project I committed to since the boss died, so, best work? yeah thats funny.

I never wrote up specs for this as I KNEW going in it was not going to be to my own standards, and intended this as a return project, to dust off and exercise rusty skills.

now, I direct you to the starwars section where I've been spending most of my time of late helping mentor a friend.
