Personnally I don't like the exposed nature of any of the ship bridges, the entire bridge tower on Star Destroyers is a waste of structure, get rid of it completely.

But then the Nebulon Frigate is one giant weakness, why have the spine at all, just connect the engines to the forward wing!!

I always considered the spine to be where containerized modules could be attached to the Nebulon B so that it can perform all the roles the old lore said it could, like carry 2 squadrons of fighters or be a long range command ship. There just isn't room in the base hull for all that crap.

The star destroyer bridge structures, and really the rest of the design, make a little more sense if you stop thinking of them as battleships and think of them as self-defending planetary assault ships. The structure allows them to place the massive shield domes away from the hull of the ship (for technobabbley reasons probably to make the shield stronger). The ship could then go dorsal side down towards a planet, giving the 8 heavy turbolaser batteries wide arcs of fire against the ground and protecting the hanger bays from enemy fire. Putting the actual bridge in the tower structure is still dumb. But its suppose to invoke wet navy ww2 combat in the films, so they get a bridge.

Anyone else think that the Profundity Cruiser from Rogue One doesn't look Mon Cal at all.

Home One is a Legends ship, I have a blurry image of the MC-30b that'll take a while to block out, it's basically a photograph of the Armada toy I think, if anyone finds any side images I can rescale and trace of any legends canon ships post em and I'll work on em.

It was inspired by concept work for the Invisible Hand

I read somewhere it was designed by the same guy or team as the Invisible Hand, and that they particularly liked the big fins, which I think are an even worse design choice.

The Wiki or Wookie page says the ship used to be a tower on a city on Mon Cal, converted to an evacuation ships, which is stupid, just considering the change in direction of the floors from vertical to horizontal alone. Makes more sense if it used to be an ocean going ship with some purpose, converted, or even submersible.

I sorta agree with you.

Turning buildings into spaceships was a silly choice. Underwater pressure forces act in a completely opposite direction than the pressure forces a space ship would experience, not to mention the fact that a space ship has engines, life support, artificial gravity, shields, and weapons that a building wouldn't need.

However, nothing says the floors have to change direction, since artificial gravity could just be installed into the current floors in a engines-are-down direction rather than gut the ship and rebuild the floors to an engines-are-aft direction.

50Stone, what's the fleet-scale image that calls Home One a 3800m long BB? I' was sure it was just a MC80 design (in the ~1100-1400 meter range)

Starwars Wiki puts it as a MC80A 1300m.

Is this the image: http://i.imgur.com/wxUHoZ7.png ? (from FantasyFlight fourm post -> https://community.fantasyflightgames.co ... rwhelming/ google-back-searching leads to a bunch of broken links)

Originally it wasn't called an MC-80.

This site, Star Wars Technical Commentaries did anaylsis - http://www.theforce.net/swtc/mcc.html#home1

But the scene in Return of the Jedi clearly shows both the Tyderium and Falcon in Home One's hanger, which would need a really big hanger on a MC-80
