Finally after months of planning and several draft blueprints, the go ahead was given for the final ship in the quartet of 'Ship Of' vessels, she was to be a de-facto university campus in space, a place of learning for young school students to adult learners, she would be a seat of learning for only the most promising and gifted of students, there being only one vessel to serve thousands.

That said, no expense was spared on the fixtures and fittings, costing even more cubits than the extravagantly appointed 'Ship of Governance'.

Following a similar format to the 'Ship of Worship' with two large cloisters, or quadrangles, these areas were for students to take time out from their learning to revise, or take their lunch breaks on the beautiful lawns surrounded by flower beds and various park benches.

The upper floors of the lecture rooms had skylight windows in the attic like rooms overlooking the gardens, these covered by large panes of transparent Tilinium, as on the other vessels in the group.
The exterior of the ship was a homage to some of the great universities on Earth, such as Oxford.
Towards the rear of the ship was a huge area containing dormitories for those students staying on campus, known as the halls of residence, within the grounds of this rear building was another huge flowered maze garden at the front and an area for relaxation to the aft containing, as seen in the drawing, a pop up bar for various functions, such as a graduation ceremony as here.

Contained in this area is a permanent stage in the corner, known as speakers corner for students to make peaceful protests or speeches to anyone who would listen, this stage also served for performing arts students to showcase their plays, and mainly for graduation ceremonies, as seen here with temporary spectator seating for the families of the post graduate students to watch as their loved ones receive their degrees.
Also, one can see an inscription on the side of the vessel, a quote from the great Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian Independence movement against British rule on Earth, a civil rights activist employing non violent civil disobedience.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present 'The Ship of Learning'

Commander Andrew 'Jolly' Johnson decided to visit the 'Ship of Worship' before embarking on a vital mission for the colonies to ask for prayers for his crew from the Devereaux family of pastors. What he saw on the ship gave him great cause for concern however, hoards of people pushing and shoving to gain a glimpse of the new pastors at work, who were just as captivating as their predecessor Dr. Zee, he was made aware of the lack of fire exits and safety measures for such large crowds.

Upon returning from his mission he volunteered to carry out a full audit of the vessel, hence came an enquiry into the safety measures on board, and it became apparent the ship, although relatively new, was no longer fit for purpose, and therefore a massive refit was commissioned, no sooner than the paint was dry on her sister vessel, the 'Ship of Learning' than she was hauled into space dock, her floor space was doubled as was her height, the massive garden areas were lifted onto a floor area containing new crypts, catacombs and chapels with vaulted ceilings.

Added to the bow of the vessel was a new visitor centre and museum of religion.

At the request of father Devereaux, the rear residential area, previously named sarcastically 'Dr. Zee's ivory tower' was also recoloured and remodelled to blend in with it's surrounding 'monastery', the pastor wanted to give a feeling of inclusiveness to all, removing it's air of privacy, unlike Dr. Zee the new incumbents of the ship were very open and wished full access to ship for all.

As a final touch, as with her sister vessels she had an inscription added, as homage to the late Dr. Zee, the final line from his favourite poem 'Footprints' was included, taken from the very final sermon he gave before his untimely death.

Here she is in post refit....

Very nice...they have a very "Mortal Engines" look to them.

Thanks - I do see what you mean but the similarity is purely coincidental - Philip Reeve’s novel is being made into a movie by Peter Jackson right? I just checked out the trailer.

In point of fact I haven’t referred to any movies or books with any of my drawings other than BSG, you mentioned my atmospheric fighter/bombers having a robotec/mospeda look, I have never seen the movies or read the books so that too is a coincidence.

Incidentally these two are the last in this group of ships, (known in the fleet now as the core four for obvious reasons)
I will endeavour where possible to work from scratch with my new drawings but will need to draw on Canis’s work for my new Super Battlestar Pegasus

I like your designs and showed the sister's your ships and got a that's nice, the like a story, they are not like us reckon geeks, they did like a ship that size for religious activities. Sister Judeth called a Vatican of the stars. Then I got the look and was asked is he going to post his story? So are you? Remember I'm the messenger, they are deadly with pinch and ruler.

Hi rit57 - I have been posting my story for over a year now entitled “Pilgrimage to Earth” under the thread ‘fan fiction’.
I thought you had already seen it, and yes I am working on the next episode right now and it should be posted in the next few days.

Thank you so much for your interest and please pass on my best regards to the sisters.

I will be happy to answer any questions either here or via PM, all the best Ivan

Hi all, time is not my friend at the moment so please be patient as I will not be able to post much for a while, but in the meantime here's a little something to wet your appetites.... this is the first of a series of Delphian ships I intend to draw and post.

Here is an excerpt from "Deathfall part 2" to explain

"There were some twenty four ships in all, around half the size of the Agrobots and Chameleon ships or the same size of Sire Galen's pleasure cruisers, in other words they were huge, upon closer inspection they had a rather rugged outer shell, almost like an armadillo. They had on their hulls some kind of array of solar panels, presumably to keep all electronic systems fully charged"

What you see here is one of four identical supply ships crammed full of specialised equipment and machinery, all will be revealed in the fullness of time :)
