While the Mercury class of Battlestars are tough ships the Admiralty wanted a ship with more fighters and more firepower, without the cost of a warstar. the designers at caprica and scorpia came up with a new update to the Endurance class Battlestars that increased their firepower and vipers, and a marginal cost.
