Surprised you haven't done the Shiva yet or the Riposte.

Actually I still have a TOS Battlecruiser design about 75% finished that I was working on but since the Blood & Chrome trailer came out I have really been thinking hard about switching my Warbook over to more the BSG2 style of ships. So if I do - I will be switching to that style of shipbuilding. Am kinda torn as I really like the TOS style but I like the idea of the KEW guns on the new ships.

Will just have to see....................

Well for me, what make the TOS series ships cool are the fact they carried plasma-based weapons. However, why not just modified the TOS ships with the new Galactica guns. That way you have both the TOS ships along with the KEW guns. That why CanisD did for BSP's Battlestar Ares.

That looks...odd really. The older designs had weapons, but they were so small as to be unnoticeable most of the time, while the new designs have such huge turrets that when you add them to the old design, its looks decidedly odd ball.

I actually blame it on the massive turrets in the new series, they are easy to see yes, but we are looking at multi-meter bore sizes now!

SHIVA CLASS BATTLECRUISER

Image

THE SHIVA CLASS Battlecruiser is a Caprican post-unification design warship built around the early "Big KEW Weapon" tactic of fleets of ships closing each other and pounding away till the other side was destroyed, surrendered or retired the field. During the Yarens of inter-colonial warfare this was the main tactic of the navies from the different colonies.

With the coming of the first Cylon attacks and through the first few years of the First Cylon War these tactics were found to have become suddenly outdated. As the Cylons mostly used massive waves of fighters and small attack craft to project their attacks the large "All Gun" warships like the Battlecruisers with no ability to carry fighters were very quickly destroyed. Within five years, almost all the Battlecruiser type ships of the new, unified Colonial Fleet had been destroyed or relegated to secondary duties.

Of the original 15 SHIVA CLASS Battlecruisers of the Caprican Navy - only two survived the Cylon onslaught.
DRAGON was so severely damaged that she was laid up to be scavenged for parts to keep other ships in action.
KRAKEN also damaged, was repaired but kept in her original specification to be used as a surface bombardment vessel when needed by Colonial Ground Forces. A role not taken into account when she was built - it was surprisingly found that the ship was very good at. She is in great demand by the Colonial Marines and tentative plans have been put into place to rebuild DRAGON for the same purpose.

DESIGN NOTE: The Colonials determining that new tactics would have to be used and that fighters would be the naval weapon of the future and the side that could put the most of them in combat was likely to win the battles set to work on a new type of warship. The unfinished hull of the Battlecruiser MINATOUR was taken in hand and was put through a major redesign and rebuild. Her large KEW gun turrets were removed. In their place two fixed, forward firing Turbo-Lasers were fitted in the bow along with numerous light anti-fighter weapons placed around the hull. Her Solonite missile battery was retained. Lastly, massive launch bays for fighters were fitted to the ships port and starboard sides.

The newly re-built ship was launched as the first COLUMBIA CLASS BATTLESTAR.

SHIVA CLASS BATTLECRUISER (as rebuilt for the Planetary Bombardment role)
LENGTH - 1438 meters

CREW: 2,000 Officers and Crewmembers
PASSENGERS: 500 Marines

WEAPONS:
4x Twin, Super Heavy, Anti-Ship Class KEW Turrets
8x Twin, Medium, Anti-Ship Class KEW Turrets
12x Heavy Solonite Missile Tubes (Reloadable)
12x Twin, Heavy Blaster Batteries
40x Twin, Light Blaster Batteries

AIRWING:
1 Fighter Flight - 12x Asp Mk.I Point Defense Fighter
2x Condor Class Drop-Ships
1 Transport Flight - 6x Alpha Class Shuttles, 6x Micro-Shuttles

DREADNOUGHT CLASS HEAVY CRUISER

Image

The "DREADNOUGHT CLASS" Heavy Cruisers were a pre-unification design used by several of the star navies of the 12 Colonies. Originally referred to as "Dreadnoughts" as a ship class - with the coming of the heavier fighter carrier type ships they were re-rated as Heavy Cruisers.

With the beginning of the 1st Cylon War, despite the age of the design, due to it's good performance and heavy weaponry it was put into further production throughout the Colonies for the new Colonial Fleet. However after the savaging of these types of all gun vessels by the hordes of Cylon massed fighter wave attacks the type was taken out of production and those units still in service were rebuilt as escorts for the large fighter carrying ships.

In her current configuration she has hangar space for the following small craft:

12x Asp Mk.II Point Defense Fighters
4x Alpha Class Heavy Shuttles
4x Micro-Shuttles

REPRISAL CLASS STRIKE CRUISER

Image

The REPRISAL CLASS Strike Cruiser was an early answer to the massed wave fighter attacks of the Cylons. As the onslaught of the early days of the 1st Cylon War progressed - every ship that was capable was fitted with some kind of facilities to carry fighter craft to help stem the Cylon tide.

Originally built as a Heavy Cruiser - the entire class of ships entered a crash building program having a flight pod integrated into the hull projecting from the bow to just under the center of the ship. Once completed they were some of the first ships in the new Colonial Fleet to act as Fighter Carriers.

As the war progressed more capable fighter carrying ships such as the Battlestars & Strikestars came into service and these class of ships were reassigned as "Strike Cruisers." Their mission was to penetrate deep behind Cylon line and strike infrastructure, support bases or raiding supply lines. Depending on their mission the squadrons station aboard could be made up of pure fighters or be mixed with combat shuttles to land Commando & Marine units to destroy ground targets.

Really like the Dreadnought-class Tinman. Aesthetic reminds me of those SW EU Dreadnaughts, but I think this looks far better. :thumbsup

Thanks, can't take all the credit though - the original design belongs to Marcus Starkiller which he kindly let me use. I just added several parts and changed some of the ship spaces to suit my eye.

Yes it does. When you upload one just make sure you click on the "Don't resize you image" tab. I got tired of Imageshack always dropping my pics and I HATE the new Photobucket layout so am not even storing stuff there anymore. I use the thumbnails to take up less space here on the forum.

Funny, I measured the original and it is the same size as the projected image.
Only thing I can think of is I have the wrong range scale up if that is what you are using to figure by. I mostly do my drawing by "eye" (gasp) based on the size of the Battlestar Galactica and try to fit that scale to each drawing.

That maybe some problem with the original drawing. Can't help anything there. Did notice there was some problems coloring parts of it. Must be what it is.
