Simple side view here showing my take on the Scimitar Class Bomber from Battlestar Prometheus. Differences include far more weapons (basically every weapon Canis has ever shown on a Raptor), based on Canis' advanced Raptor design, an additional pair of engines and that it would actually have an FTL. The crew would consist of two, the pilot and the gunner. The rear turret is controlled remotely by the gunner (who sits beside the pilot). The passenger/ECO station on the Raptor is instead taken up by an internal weapons bay (deploys out the bottom), more fuel, a storage compartment and the reduced computer systems compared with a Raptor.

Anybody think it would look better with a 3rd pair of engines instead of a rear turret?

one question? how and who is firing the aft gun or aimed it?

Actually...thinking about it. Perhaps peruse some of the technical history forums and check out some of the more advanced ideas for Bomber turret controls.

Many late war German bombers as well as American bombers (Such as the B-29) had mechanical 'Fire computers' to direct fire from dissociated gunners and their turrets.

Also, check out the BF 210 for an idea on how its remote guns were set up?

So...hidden away in the back of that Raptor's cockpit is a guy, facing backwards, watching some sort of visual array and controlling a ventral and dorsal turret set up?

Very much cheers to all

A very good version of the Scimitar. You can add a third pair of engines, only if you go for a bigger version with greater payload.

The co-pilot/gunner, sat beside the pilot. The rear gun uses similar technology to the CIWS systems on a Battlestar. All the gunner needs to do is confirm targets as hostile.

The payload is pretty substantial. It's already got the full weapons load-out of the armed Raptor, and six externally mounted big bombs/missile, and an additional pair of rocket bays, and two additional turrets, and an additional pair of forwards facing cannons (these are controlled by the pilot), and an untold number of extra ordinance inside. On top of all this, it could also mount more weapons on top of the wings.

Well an over sized and over gunned Scimitar will be over kill for the Cylon's.

I like it. It could also be a Scimitar MK II, replacing the older version.

Could be, however, in BSP the Scimitar is supposed to be a new design only just entering service with the Fleet. So for this to fit in either the Scimitar Mk I needs to be a failed project that was not widely adopted by the fleet. Presumably this will be due to the lack of FTL and other limitations making it a worse choice then just specially equipping Raptors. This could be the dedicated design (developed alongside the next generation of Raptor) that takes over.
