Mandjet Class Courier
Named after one of the ship's of Ra, this ship was designed as a high acceleration courier for Fleet operations when a Raptor is deemed unsuitable or lacks the endurance. The ship is designed with two clusters of six engines in independent pods. The ship carried respectable anti-fighter defenses for is size and two light naval gun turrets firing from a ventral and dorsal tower. The engine pods are designed to independently pivot 45 degrees to the ventral and dorsal aspect of the ship giving it a high degree of maneuverability for a non-fighter. It's eight to thrust ratio also allows for one of the fastest acceleration rates of any fleet vessel in normal space. While the comlex engine layout is not popular with engineering crews due to the numerous moving parts in the traversing mechanisms, etc; the simplicity of the engines themselves and the great redundancy of the number of engines allow for a very resilient drive system and rugged craft. The ship carries a crew of about 50 and has become popular in other capcities throughout the Colonies and the Fleet assuming such roles as Police ship, Revenue Cutter, Fleet Scout and in limited cases Private Security Forces. The Police variant comes with specially designd Raptor the docks between the engine pods and is capable of being access from a forward hatch. The Raptor is designed for boarding criminal vessels and conducting in space inspecting and rescue operations. The Raptor also has large capacity door and exit ramps both port and starboard to facilitate boarding actions and egress when boarding hostile vessels. This attached Raptor has recently been requested in all new vessels delivered to the Colonial Fleet and is intended to be added to all vessels currently in service during scheduled refits.
