The Thalia Class was designed to fill an number of roles and dates back to the early days of the First Cylon War. Like most cruisers it is intended to do a number of different tasks with no glaring weaknesses, however, due to its lack of specialization it does none of them extremely well.
Heavily armed, it is weakly armored and is described as having a glass jaw. It is able to carry on a long range fight and hit well above it weight class, but not for extended periods. It is maneuverable, but lacks the acceleration rate of lighter vessels. In short it is similar to a camel, (which according to the old joke is a horse designed by committee), a grand compromise of capabilities.
The Thalia (shown here in Gemenon Militia colors) acts as a Convoy Escort; Planetary Picket and Defense Vessel; Patrol Craft; Screening Vessel for larger fleets; a Command Ship for groups of smaller vessels; and just about anything else the fleet might think of.
Ungainly looking, most prospective Commanders find the vessel's ascetics take some getting used to; it has never-the-less developed a reputation for being a dependable and versatile ship deserving of respect. Cheap to build as it primarily uses sections common to other ships already in production it remains in service to this day in most Planetary Defense Forces.
