What really has me frosted right now is that the CDC is acknowledging that the numbers were cooked and only 6% died solely from C19...everyone else had contributing factors that were likely the cause of death. So...because of this, they stalled the economy, put a lot of us out of work and because the unemployment commissions in the various states were so screwed up and payments were delayed, people are facing eviction and loss of everything they've worked for.

No Kurt, that's not what that update means AT ALL. Please stop spreading this dangerous misconception.

Death certificates list all symptoms that could have contributed to a person's death. The CDC update only shows that 6% of people who died with covid markers did not have other symptoms that could have contributed. This doesn't mean that the other 94% were on death's door and covid just pushed them over the edge. Most would have loved long, productive lives.

And it's important to note that half of all adults in the US have serious health conditions that the CDC has warned make you more susceptible to Covid.

We have had 200,000 more deaths so far this year than we normally have by this point in the year. 183,000 of them have been positively linked to covid, but it's very likely that the other 17,000 are from it as will.

This article provides more context than I'm able to convey and interviews Dr. Fauci about the update.

The Hill is not an unbiased source. It's all about framing. Right now I'm not in the best frame of mind to debate any of this as the USPS lost an extremely important packet that I sent and I stand to lose a significant amount of property because of it.

And neither are the people who say that the CDC cooked the books. But they don't have the experts on their side.

I'm sorry to hear about the lost packet, hopefully that gets resolved soon.

There are too many oops we misdiagnosed the cause of death. Florida, California, and a few other states screwed the pooch on that.

Oh buy the way I survived another surgery.

There has been "talk" that funds are being allocated to hospitals in relation to COVID cases, therefore the more report cases/deaths a hospital can claim the more money they will receive, now this may be baseless rumour or even malicious miss-information but it could effect the raw data the CDC is getting, bad data in bad data out as it were.

It could also be a simple case if overworked doctors not looking beyond the obvious for a CoD when a COVID carrier dies and they have other patients demanding their attention.

It's always easy to second guess after the fact, rather than make the hard call on limited or no information always being maligned by someone for making a decision someone disagrees with.

I mean here in the UK, initially there was a huge furor against lockdown, now they're complaining that the government waited too long and all that x amount of deaths should have been prevented. Then there was pressure and demands to lift restrictions on travel, and that businesses were suffering, and now there is an increase in new cases and there are complaints that the ban was lifted too early, really is it any surprise that good people stay away from politics, who wants to be bashed for their every decision.

50stone, it doesn't help at all that Facebook really wants to help Russia cause all these bad reactions in people as you described. All this whipsawing back and forth makes it obvious.

Good observations 50Stone - and to add to that it stinks that certain big companies use Covid-19 as an excuse to tear up people’s contracts, effectively firing and rehiring them on much worse t’s and c’s

I just lost my job of 27 years as I was forced to take the most involuntary of voluntary redundancies.

I worked for the so called “worlds favourite airline”

I have nothing but sympathy for any of you that have suffered, be it financially, mentally or physically because of this awful disease no matter how inept or otherwise our respective governments are.

So to answer Kurt’s original post, yes the whole thing sucks but I feel we may have to live with this disease indefinitely.

By the way, get well soon Rick.

The funds being allocated to hospitals for Covid cases are through the Medicare program, which covers the costs for people who do not have their own health insurance and are not financially capable of covering the cost of their treatment. To make billing Medicare easier (and therefore more cost efficient), the program sets fixed prices on most common ailments (pneumonia, gunshot wound, dyalisis treatments, ect) and they did the samething for Covid. Otherwise, the hospital would have to calculate the amount of time every healthcare provider from doctors to nurses to care techs spent with each patient, what their pay rate is, and how much medicine and equipment was used in the patient's care. There is a lot of supporting data such as test results and doctors notes that is needed to support each Medicare claim, so it's not just doctors making up random stuff to make more money.

There have been very few misdiagnosis on Covid at the hospital level once the pandemic got going, because by then doctors had the information to make the proper assessment. The rate is no worse than the misdiagnosis rate for any other disease.

Good to hear about your surgery rit.
