It appears that there is a brewing issue in the official Star Wars publications arena; fan art has been used without attribution and claimed as someone else's work and it appears that one of the named artists (who did this) isn't talking despite being contacted quite a few days ago. In short, Fractalsponge's and Eviljedi's work has been lifted, had some minor filters or tweaks done, and then passed off as this artist's work.

It gets worse, but I'll let the video explain the details.

Over the years, I've taken a lot of grief when I limited the use and republication of the designs I commissioned CanisD to produce. This is what I wanted to avoid. Prior to his passing, CanisD curtailed his permission for third parties to post his stuff on DeviantArt because some turd over there poached his designs and claimed them as his own.

Yes, we are a fan community, but we also need to respect the work of others. There are only a very few times I ever denied someone permission to use my designs, and those were limited to the "hero" ships I had in Lady H.

I hope that this was just a mix-up in communication and not something that was done on purpose. I see more people going the way that TanJ did five or six years back: pulling all permission for third party use.

I've found and called out people who tried to take credit of CanisD ships, both Kurt and Allen's work. Luckily they posted corrections, so I never mentioned it.

Interesting. Just curious...which ships were used?

It was a mixture of ships, mostly capital ships, but what caught my eye was Hecate with the dragon on the side, I contacted the owner of the site and complained, it was removed and the poster was blocked. With him Bloomsbury removed all his images. For Allen it was worse, but some one else complained on oh is. Don't worry Kurt we got your back.

Thank you Kurt and rit57 for highlighting this issue. Canis is no longer here to defend his art. He was always very generous with allowing others to use his work so long as credit was given, surely not much to ask for his generosity, and that of Allen and kurt who’s commissions they mostly are!

For the record it’s is mostly David’s work we are talking about on the yards but the same rule applies to any artist on any site and any forum.
This is wholly unacceptable and must be stopped.

For my part I try and work from scratch these days but try and credit Canis as I do have to pinch the odd part now and then. That said I’m happy for any of you to challenge me if you feel I missed out a credit on any of my drawings.

Thankfully this is not a problem we’ve really encountered much on this site.
