Always wondered why ships would have rear facing navigational deflectors, like do they often warp travel in reverse?
I know that rear placement comes from the old books, not critising your designs Captshade, just the weirdness of the precendent.

They are also used as sensors. And as dreadnoughts tend to be captained by flag officers. And thus, can act as space control. But yes, some ships can warp in reverse.

:D

I would expect that although the optimum is along a ship's long axis, a warp field could be shaped to propel a ship in any direction, its all about the shape of the field and the direction of the compression and uncompression of space, there I go pretending I know warp physics!

The most notable example is, the Enterprise managed "Emergency Warp" (Approx. Warp 9), in reverse, during "TOS: Balance of Terror".

You know as much about warp physics as the writers...who made stuff up as needed. ;-)
