Ok, I have made the leap. But it's been problematic. Luckily I've used a couple CAD programs before so I know the basics, and it's not too hard to figure out what to do with Sketchup, at least with the basics. Right now I'm having several problems, and would appreciated advice/info -

1. How do you round/cut off edges to produce non-regular shapes?
2. How do I rotate components (ie: I've copied something, but want to flip it by 180)?
3. How do you convert a 3D drawing to 2D blueprints, and vice versa.

I've tried the help section, but it isn't particularly helpful. Any help will be appreciated

1. How do you round/cut off edges to produce non-regular shapes?
You can right click on it then click 'soften smooth' edges or use the follow me tool

2. How do I rotate components (ie: I've copied something, but want to flip it by 180)?

select the parts you want to flip,right click, then 'flip along', and choose the axis you want to flip it along

3. How do you convert a 3D drawing to 2D blueprints, and vice versa.

For the 2d to 3d you might want to take a gander at this I put together;

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, sketchup is easy to use, but the documentation and how to is lacking.

Why does a carrier strike group need a graphics designer?

So they can make their own Versions of CGI films, since they can't reach Blockbuster or get Netflix DVDs mailed faster. (no offense)

we do that when we get board. we actually get movies before they get reliest. we got sw 3 two weeks before it was in theaters. i made posters and banners, pamphlets, business cards, just about anything the capt or admiral can think up. our department had photographers , journalist, graphic designer, and lithagraphers.
