Taking the night off...back to the grind tomorrow. Now I'm off to watch Sword Art Online for the 7th? Or is it 8th, time...

A long time ago I think I posted a couple videos of what I viewed as Virgon Saber Dancing. I found that it has a name, at least that I've found will allow me to search for videos, "Cossack Flanking". Like VSD, Cossack Flaking has martial roots and is part of the technique that the Cossacks used when fighting with one or two (they trained for both, almost unique among sword fighting techniques. Most would use weapons of unequal length - Rapier and Main Gauche for example, but not two identical weapons) shashkas (what their sabers are called). Anyway, I thought I'd share a search with a number of good videos.

54 pages. I really shouldn't be watching the WW2 movies...elements of this chapter are influenced by both war movies about the time from Pearl Harbor to Midway, as well as stories that my father and his friends told me when I was a kid. While Dad didn't server on a battleship or carrier, he was the CO of a PT boat in the South Pacific for the duration of the war (from mid 1942 onward), so there will be a sort of 'hit and run', skirmish level feel to this chapter (especially the latter half).

That's awesome Kurt. The PT's were much undersung heroes in the Pacific theater.

Thanks! I remember my dad and his XO talking about their boat...which was the inspiration for the Peltast and Argo. From the bow, they had the following:

37mm cannon
2x 20mm Oerlikon cannons
2x 8rnd rocket launchers
2x .30cal LMGs (one mounted on each corner of the bridge)
1x Twin .50 cal mount
1x 20mm Oerlikon on the deckhouse roof
1x Twin .50 cal mount
1x 40mm Bofors

On each side there were two heavy hardpoints that originally carried one 21" torpedo each, but later saw the aft two mounts removed and replaced with roll-off depth charges because they had sunk pretty much anything that would be worth a torpedo.

Nasty little boats!

Up to a full 56 pages and getting a bit tired to continue. Things are coming together nicely.

Krieky, that's a heavily armed boat. How'd it manage to stay afloat with all that armament? The PT crews were known to "enhance" their boats.

Yankee ingenuity! I remember them telling me stories about ambushing Japanese lighters, landing boats, and barges, shooting them up and then boarding them like a pack of pirates. They stripped them of all the intelligence they could find (maps, ID papers, etc.), all the weapons and ammunition, and then made sure they sank. The guns and swords, they dumped into 55 gallon drums and either just dumped them in the ocean or took them back to base as "trade goods". Dad said that looking back, he wishes he would have sent a lot of the stuff they "liberated" back home...the collector's market would have made him a pretty penny. But...there were Marines to buy off to do stuff and get stuff, and so the goodies met a different end.

Probably about 80-85 pages or so. Did you get my email or pm?

I'll ask them, I'm in Utah recovering from my last surgery, but I made a list I never thought or wanted. I'll get back to you after the 1st.
