I’m going to incorporate some of the themes, concepts, and institutions from my fantasy novels (Peerage, Houses, names), but it will also have a lot of new and original material.

(I mentioned that I was developing the Earth Union as a potential stand-alone "world" for my writing. Corale is part of this, but is also part of the Lady H canon.)

The Earth Union had thirty-six member worlds, several times that number of colony or settlement worlds, and one autonomous region. Corale was a world settled during the second expansion of 500-700 AL (After Landing). It was settled by colonists from Earth, El Dorado, Electra, Caledonia, and Troubadour, with each group's culture quickly melding and mixing with the others to form something truly unique with the Union. The world was offered membership in 875 but declined, preferring to be an autonomous world within the Union. This gave Corale the right of self-determination, its own government, military, and so on, while paying a reduced tax burden to the Union for Union level services.

Over the centuries, Corale gained a reputation as a haven for those who didn't fit within mainstream Union society. This isn't to say that it was a refuge for criminals and deviants, they still recognized Union law and Union Marshals were free to operate (with the full cooperation of local authorities) within Corale, but rather it became a home for those who thought differently, wanted a chance to start over, or any one of a myriad of non-illegal reasons.

The government was a Parliamentary Aristocracy/Monarchy, with the Emperor/Empress being the hereditary head of state and head of government, though this latter function was delegated to the Prime Minister in most cases. Parliament had two wings; the Peoples' Chamber (Chamberlains) and the Peerage (Peers), with the Prime Minister elected from the Peoples' Chamber, approved by the Peerage, and appointed by the monarch. While the monarch was the highest official within Corale, the real power rested with the Great Houses of the Peerage and the Speaker of the Peerage.

Militarily, Corallin society was probably slightly more militarized than the baseline Union world. Nationally, there are the Corallin military forces (Fleet, Marines, Army, Guard), and then there are the forces belonging to the Houses and Great Houses. Each House is authorized to raise a minimum force dictated by the Peerage and commissioned by the monarch, as well as additional forces that the Head of House deems necessary for protection of House and Peerage.

One such ship in the service of House Aramya, Sekhmet, commanded by Commander Lady Bayliza Aramya. The ship, a Corallin design that was widely exported, has a greatly increased dradis and EW suite that augments her fire control system and greatly improves her guns’ accuracy. The anechoic coating and the heightened EW suite allow Sekhmet to move virtually undetected when she’s rigged for silent running, and has been a great benefit when dealing with Erisian splinter factions that believed Corallin space to be a “free port”.

Interesting ship. Any of the Corallin ships survive the genocide and journey to the colonies?

That’s a good question...

Yes...at least two did and when I do the “Taffy-3” story, they’ll be featured.

These are some ships that Ivanho did for me last year. They're from Vignette 9 and Chapter 51 and detail some of the large civilian ships that were mentioned.

Carousel is the de facto seat of "government" in the Cauldron and serves the purpose by being a single point of contact for both commercial and government operations. Also known informally as the "Porn Palace", Carousel is also the home of high end erotica productions and focuses on quality over quantity and is trying to buck the trend of ever more over the top sexual activities.

Compassion House is mobile hospital and provides the majority medical services for the system. Given the nature of the system's industry, the mining concerns and Union government formed a joint venture to fund the medical center. Within it's massive frame, almost any and every medical procedure known to the Union can be performed, limited only by the expertise and experience of its staff.

Image

Gnome Hall is Greenbriar Mining's administrative center and primary manufacturing center within the Cauldron. Within its cavernous hull, there are production facilities to produce a variety of finished products from electronics to hard goods.

Image

Granite, Iron, and Mill Town are refinery/ore processing ships that belong to Greenbriar Mining.

Circus Maximus is a study in extremes; on one hand it is a family friendly vacation destination that is a complete destination package, while on the other hand, it's lower levels offer every sort of mature entertainment that can be conceived.

The Earth Union carriers that I posted a little earlier reminded me of the US Escort and Light carriers from WW2. I'm going to write a story evoking the spirit of Taffy-3 and the only time Yamato fired her guns at another surface ship.

Mining ships, now that's something I have not thought about !

They look super coolio, reminds me when I gathered a bazillion ores in Minecraft (with mods so you have like 70 types of ores in-game lol)

Thanks! The credit for the design goes to Ivanho; he took what I described and the base designs that Canis drew and created them.

These were ships that were semi-permanently stationed in The Cauldron, a system with several very dense asteroid belts, so that they could process the raw ore and ship only refined product or, in the case of Gnome Hall, finished manufactured products.

(This began as a thought exercise with Mia; what if the Earth Union adopted fast patrol craft like Peltast or Argo...what would they use as a "carrier"? This is something that wouldn't happen until after the Earth refugees arrived in the Colonies, though I may use the Peltasts as the EU fast patrol craft if I spin it off into a separate "world".)

Engagement after engagement showed that the fast patrol ship concept was sound, and when operated with fighters and other light attack craft, the equation was much greater than the simple sum of its components. It made sense to either design or convert an Earth Union ship to carry the gunships and the Tisiphone class was selected. The first produced, Mytilene, quickly proved the concept and earned an outstanding record hunting Raiders when operating Toxotai class gunships. Like most of the later Earth Union ship designs, she was able to use an anechoic coating to reduce her dradis signature.

I was asked about what kind of orbital facilities were present in orbit around Saga in Thule system. Here they are...

These are defensive platforms; heavily armed and armored, relatively maneuverable, but slow.

This is the massive Saga Fleet Shipyards. It is capable of performing any type of repair and even building new hulls.

This is a fueling platform.

This is the orbital portion of the Saga/Thule base infrastructure.

Didn't you already post the support infrastructure for the Thule System several years back before our Fearless Leader passed Beyond the Rim?

I did. However, talking with Gus this afternoon I realized that they were posted some years back (Canis passed in 2015 and it's been almost five years, and they were posted well before his death) and since they will be playing a current role in the story, I figured it would be good to repost them for ease of finding.
