What do folks think Han Solo was talking about when he says he can outrun the "Big Corellian Ships" which are superiour to Bulk Cruisers in ANH?

I've read a few convos on the net that suggest he might mean CR-70/90 Corvettes, but while these are bigger than the Falcon I wouldn't call them big ships.

Are there bigger Corellian ships such as cruisers etc that we haven't seen and what do folks think they look like.

The ROTJ novel talks about other Corellian vessels making up the Rebel fleet, but they were never specifically shown on screen. Beyond that, I don't think there has been any canon attempt to flesh out what ships Han was talking about. I too doubt that he meant the CR-90.

Maybe there will be some mention of them in the new Solo story.

My guess is that he was, as he seemed to do a lot in ANH, get things very wrong (i.e. using distance measurements as time measurements) and really meant Star Destroyers.

If your refering to the 12 parsec boast I always assumed that mean due to the Falcon's speed and nav that it can skirt closer to the Maw's blackholes.

Slower and less bold pilots have to give the Maw a wider berth making their trip longer.

The Arquitens-class is very Corellian in design although the fan wiki's says its a KDY design, probably due to it's shape, is there any official info on it?

I've heard the argument regarding the navigation angle, but it's one that I just don't accept. Solo is an small independent, think a self employed truck driver who prospects for a load when and where he delivers his current load. Yes, they may be more apt to push the envelope and take more risks, but when it comes to stellar navigation, it becomes less "gut instinct" and more "computing power"; I think R2 would be able to chart a better course given the variables than a meatbag (sorry, that was my HK-47 slip...). Therefore, the larger companies that had more to gain from trimming even a day from a trip, would have the economic incentive to devote the computing power necessary to plotting the best possible course and then keeping it updated at their various waystations.

Shoot, if it wasn't for West End Games, Han could actually have been referring to Imperial Star Destroyers. Nothing in any of the films says that they AREN'T built by Corellia.

I'm quoting this because it needs to be repeated over and over; West End Games pretty much single handedly created the Star Wars Universe that others based their books in. With scant material and off the cuff comments in three movie novelizations and six supporting books (the Solo trilogy and the Calrissian trilogy - the Splinter of the Mind's Eye wasn't used, AFAIK) they created a vibrant, rich universe that sees it's creations still in use today - from maps, to ships, to locations. And yet, they seem to get no recognition or credit. It's a damned shame.

And none of the games, and I use that term loosely, that have come after WEG's SW RPG have been worth a rotten fig, IMO of course.
